I put together a kit LP archtop with GM P.A.F. pickups recently. It’s not perfect, but then again, none of my builds ever are. I’ve learned so much from this project and another one involving a green ST build, which is also nearing completion. Particularly, I gained a wealth of knowledge about finishing techniques.
The green ST looks pretty good aesthetically, but the finish came out a bit rougher than I hoped. The LP also has some imperfections; while much of the front and back achieved a glass-like finish, there are still a couple of bad spots where things didn’t go as planned.
I realized that I’ve probably been applying the spray paint too quickly and not sanding sufficeintly between coats. Those who have followed my previous builds might recall that I usually complete them within a week or so. However, it’s clear now that rushing through these processes might compromise the quality of the finish.
