I'm currently in the process of finishing a guitar, and I've been primarily using a wipe-on water-based satin polyurethane. However, this time around, I'm opting for an oil-based gloss finish to change things up a bit. The back of the guitar showcases a clear mahogany wood, which is quite subtle yet undeniably beautiful.
As for the body of the guitar, it has been treated with multiple coats of oil to enrich its look. Initially, I appleid boiled linseed oil; however, it seemed almost as if I hadn’t applied anything at all due to its subtle effect. To enhance the appearance further, I switched to Danish Golden Oak oil and have since built up roughly ten coats.
The transformation has been significant and I am now considering what my next steps should be as far as sealing or finishing are concerned. Any advice or suggestions from fellow enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated! Here's how it looks after the last coat of glossy polyurethane: LP kit gloss poly next.jpg.
