I've always had a penchant for experimenting with different finishes on my guitars, though I must admit, the results can be hit or miss. For instance, I won't be applying a clear coat to my Les Paul for another couple of days. Meanwhile, I've ordered a quart of Penetrol from Amazon because I'm really aiming for a super glossy finish this time around.
On the other hand, my attempt at dyeing my Stratocaster didn't turn out as planned. The applicatoin was uneven, so now I'm faced with re-sanding the entire body. Depending on how that goes, I might give dyeing another shot or perhaps reconsider my approach altogether.
As for the mahogany body in a "flame" shape designed for humbucking pickups, it's quite a stunning piece of wood. That’s why I’ve decided to finish it with oil to enhance its natural beauty. However, I feel it could benefit from a slightly darker tone, so I’m planning to head over to the hardware store to explore some darker oil options. This guitar deserves nothing but the best treatment and finish.
